Anti-WEF Vigil-
An Open Invitation to a Party
Feb. 1, 6:00 p.m. Washington Square Park
Another World is Possible
A CALL FOR CREATION:
ART AND MUSIC TO PROTEST THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM
DID YOU KNOW that from January 31 to February 4 the
world's most powerful CEOs and politicians will converge on the shell-shocked
city of New York under the guise of `improving the state of the world'
to decide new ways on how to exploit the planet's resources and workers?
Did you know they are planning to hold an indulgent
cocktail party at the New York Stock Exchange, only a few blocks from
the still smoldering devastation of the World Trade Center?
Help us expose and lampoon their immoral romp.
Come "celebrate" the triumph of corporate power in
this enforced climate of fear and uncertainty:
dress in your finest threads,
make elongated cigarette holders,
bring enormous papier mache martini glasses.
Bring along your homeless, your exiles, your exploited
workers.
It's party time!
(We'll even dance the tango on shantytowns!)
With the public paralyzed by fear, and the continued
dissolution of barriers to trade and global capital movement (such as
those pesky laws protecting working conditions, public health crises and
the environment), its showtime for Big Business.
Oh, I'm sorry-Did your invitation get lost in the
mail?
No matter. Come join instead the PEOPLE'S tea party
on the streets of New York and show the top-hat cronies what a better
world would look like!
WE HAVE THE TOOLS FOR CHANGE
We create not with nuclear power and sweatshops,
but with cardboard and papier mache.
Our tools are universal:
Yellow
Torches to carry the light of truth and justice,
Red Shovels and Spades to plant the seeds
of change in the earth,
Purple Paintbrushes to express creative vision,
Blue Ears so that all people might be heard,
Orange Hammers for worker`s rights and for
building adequate shelter for all,
Green hearts to heal the earth with our compassion.
We ask that you build a giant puppet personifying
the spirit of your community, or choose to paint a banner of your community's
vision of a better world.
Create a sea of globes or a grove of trees. Design
a "Missing" poster to both honor and commemorate the lost victims of violence
or injustice.
Musically inclined? Bring your instruments to celebrate
the diversity and resilience of the people. Join a samba band. Bring plastic
buckets for percussion, and bang pots and pans (cacerolazo) in solidarity
with the people of Argentina!
We encourage all student, immigrant, community groups,
union organizations, all people with kind hearts and courage, to contact
us to better coordinate our actions and theatric imagery.
Which tea party best represents your dreams and goals?
Take to the streets to voice your opposition to the
WEF's exclusion, and celebrate civic inclusion with creative hope.
Our open convention begins at a permitted VIGIL
in Washington Square Park, 6pm, February 1.
It continues, of course, with our legal pageant of
vibrant, defiant, diverse communities on February 2.
Gather at the SE corner of Central Park at Noon,
where we'll be led by none other than "Mother of the Exiled," Lady Liberty
herself. Her shining torch of justice and liberty will light our path
to Waldorf Astoria where we'll demand that political power, now amassed
by unaccountable corporations, be returned to the PEOPLE-where it belongs!
With your help, we certainly will prove... ANOTHER
WORLD IS POSSIBLE!
