Marijuana Reform Party of New York Focuses
on Medical Marijuana in 2002 Campaign
The Marijuana Reform Party of New York (http:/MarijuanaReform.org)
is focusing on medical marijuana as the main issue for their 2002
election campaign to get 50,000 votes, thereby becoming an official
ballot-line political party in New York State. Their goal is to
get the state legislature to establish a comprehensive medical
marijuana program for New York. As a first step, they are lobbying
the New York City Council to pass a resolution that calls upon
the state legislature (and governor) to enact appropriate legislation.
The lobbying process is well underway and
if you live in New York City there are a number of ways you can
help. If you live in New York, but outside New York City, there
are things you can do that are described on their web site (see
link below).
New York City residents please help by doing
the following.
Write a letter to Council Member Christine Quinn, who is the Chair
of the City Council Health Committee. In the letter, you should
express your concerns about medical marijuana and ask her to put
both the issue and the Marijuana Reform Party's proposed resolution
on the agenda of the Health Committee. Letters should be addressed
to:
Council Member Christine Quinn
265 West 40th Street
Suite #803
New York, NY 10018
Write a letter to you local representative
in the Council asking what their position on medical marijuana
is and if they would support the Marijuana Reform Partys
proposed resolution. To find out who your representative is, click
