Saint John, N.B.- Public safety minister
Margaret Anne Blaney says having an inmate with the right to smoke
marijuana is a first for the province. She says the province doesn't
have a policy for this situation but will have to come up with
one before July 18.
That's when Greg Boyle is to appear for sentencing.
Boyle was convicted of possession of marijuana for the purpose
of trafficking. But because of chronic back pain, Boyle has the
legal right to possess and grow marijuana for medical proposes.
Boyle may take that legal right behind bars.
He says the benefits he gets from marijuana far outweigh the side
effects of narcotic painkillers.
