Feds Raid Steve McWilliams' Medical Marijuana Garden

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 22, 11 am PDT:

DEA agents are raiding the medical marijuana garden of Steve McWilliams, co-director of the Shelter from the Storm medical cannabis collective. McWilliams maintains a small sideyard garden serving a few seriously ill patients in San Diego.

Last week, McWilliams received a letter from the US attorney warning him to destroy his garden or face federal arrest. California NORML denounced the raid as outrageous government vandalism.

"This raid makes a mockery of DEA chief Asa Hutchinson's pretense that the government is only interested in targeting major traffickers, not individual patients," says California NORML coordinator Dale Gieringer. "Shelter from the Storm is a small, personal-use collective with no connection to interstate commerce. By targeting responsible medical marijuana providers, the DEA is only strengthening the hands of clandestine smugglers and narco-traffickers."
